MAKU. Apron

Because it uses the same fabric and stitching as those curtains — made to withstand years of use — it holds up well to washing, and can be worn for everything from everyday cooking to weekend outdoor activities.

This apron draws on the noren and curtain-making techniques that Ken Kato Flag Shop has honed over many years. A noren used outdoors or in busy doorways must be both durable and light. “MAKU.” is made from “juban tenjiku,” a fabric often chosen for such uses, offering a well-balanced combination of moderate thickness, strength, and lightness. The dyeing, too, is done in a way that stands up to laundering, so the apron stays clean in daily use while developing a deeper character over time — an aging process you can enjoy.

Thoughtful details extend to its construction as well: the deep slits leave the legs free, keeping movements like crouching and stepping wide comfortable. Adjusting the length with the ties lets you play with the silhouette. The pockets, with their stylish vertical lines, are positioned so your hands slip in easily and are well suited to holding a smartphone. And with the ties cinched, slipping your hand into the pocket on the reverse side gives you a handy grip for hot plates and dishes.
