Unique Expression Embodying Memories of Calligraphy and Architecture

The Beauty of Objects Inspired by Architecture

Jewelry artist Fusé Sayuki, a native of Tokyo. Raised in an environment with an architect father and a mother who studied textiles, Fusé's creations possess a beauty that allows them to stand as singular objects even when not worn. Their genesis lies in the European architectural marvels visited with her father in childhood. The perspective of distilling the grand forms of monumental structures into miniature jewelry pieces forms the core of her work.

Commitment to Unique and Singular Design

A childhood desire to wear pieces unlike any other has evolved into designs that are simple and urban, yet imbued with warmth. Currently, she has relocated her base to Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, and is engaged in new expressions that incorporate traditional techniques, including collaborations with local artisans.

The Art of Calculated Asymmetry

Hallmarks of her work are asymmetrical designs, differing from left to right, and a masterful control of light. Shapes and negative spaces are meticulously calculated and varied to allow for diverse expressions depending on the viewing angle. Furthermore, by distinguishing between polished and matte textures on the front and back surfaces, she orchestrates a captivating interplay of appearances as light shifts.

The Meticulous Hand-Forming Process

Rather than casting with molds, each design, drawn by the artist herself, is meticulously hand-cut from a silver sheet using a jeweler's saw. For three-dimensional designs, the pieces are cut out, reversed with careful consideration of their appearance when bent, and then shaped with the application of heat from a torch. This accumulation of precise handcraft imbues the everyday with a subtle sense of the extraordinary.

Kana-Akuse: The Fusion of Calligraphy and Jewelry

The signature collection, Kana-Akuse (a unique line fusing calligraphy and jewelry creation), stems from her childhood immersion in both arts. Its origin lies in a graduation project created during her time as president of her high school calligraphy club, driven by the desire to wear kana characters (Japanese phonetic syllabary) possessing a beauty unique to Japan. She draws characters with a brush, selecting forms from a diverse array of patterns that leverage the nuances of ink intensity and brushstrokes.

New Endeavors Expanding Globally

These chosen characters are thus embodied as jewelry through Fusé's hands. Currently, to share this handcraft more widely, it is offered as a limited collection at Artisano. Carefully selected words with beautiful Japanese resonance, such as 'Tamayura' and 'Uzuki', connect traditional beauty with a global sensibility.
